Brake Pads (street & track) for StopTech calipers

Please click on your caliper below to view compatible aftermarket pads:

ST-60 (6-piston)

ST-40 (4-piston)

ST-45 (4-piston)

This caliper looks identical to the ST-40, but pads for that caliper will not fit. Only a few 15" front kits and some rear applications, like the Nissan 350Z and Infiniti G35 use this caliper.  If you need help identifying your caliper, call or email Zeckhausen Racing for assistance or simply look up your vehicle on our web site.  Each StopTech kit description clearly identifies which calipers are used.

Replacement AeroRotors

Each StopTech AeroRotor includes a hat installation kit with replacement drive pins, screws, anti-rattle washers, Loctite 290 thread locking compound, and an instruction sheet.  More comprehensive instructions with photos may be found here: Instructions for replacing StopTech rotors

Many customers who track their cars purchase a second set of rotors and hats as spares.  If a rotor becomes too worn or cracks, it can easily be swapped at the track with a new rotor/hat assembly.  After the event, the old assembly may be freshened with new rotors, drive pins, bushings, and washers at a time and place of your convenience.  Taking apart and reassembling brake components still hot from the track, between run sessions, often in grueling heat or pouring rain does not contribute to the enjoyment of motorsports!  Save yourself the hassle and order a spare set of hats or a complete hat/rotor assembly.  Contact Zeckhausen Racing for pricing.

Replacement AeroHats

Many customers who track their cars regularly, purchase a second set of rotors and hats as spares.  If a rotor becomes too worn, it can be swapped at the track with a complete new rotor/hat assembly.  After the event, the old assembly may be sent to Zeckhausen Racing to be disassembled, inspected, and freshened up with new rotors, drive pins, bolts, and washers for a nominal charge.  Or, you may install new rotors and hardware yourself at a time and place of your convenience.  Taking apart and reassembling brake components that are still hot from the track, often in grueling heat or pouring rain, does not contribute to the enjoyment of motorsports!  Save yourself the hassle and order a spare set of hats and rotors (pre-assembled at no charge).

Hats should be considered wear items, just like rotors and pads.  For street driven cars, old hats may be reused several times with new rotors, although winter driving on salty roads may accelerate corrosion.  For track cars, depending on the severity of duty, the hats may need to be replaced much sooner.  Each time the rotors and drive hardware are replaced, the installer should closely inspect the hats for any sign of damage or cracking, especially around the rotor mounting holes.  If it doesn't look right, be safe and replace the hats!

Hats are specific to each big brake kit application.  Since StopTech's hats are directional for improved airflow, there is a left and a right part number.  Contact Zeckhausen Racing for the correct part numbers for your car's big brake kit.  Prices shown are approximate, since some applications require more complicated (and thus more expensive) hat designs.

Titanium Backing Plates

Racers with competition tires and/or heavy, powerful cars, may experience fluid fade and destruction of caliper dust boots, even after the installation of a big brake kit.  In order to control the transfer of heat, some race pads use special materials which act as insulators between the pad friction material and the backing plate. 

These titanium backing plates, placed between the pad and the caliper, dramatically reduce heat transfer, preventing dust boots from vaporizing and reducing the temperature of the brake fluid.  They are especially effective when the pads have worn by 50 percent or more, since worn pads do not provide as much thermal insulation between the rotors and the calipers.

Caliper Rebuild Parts

For street applications, most calipers will never have to be rebuilt for the life of the vehicle.  However, under heavy track use, dust boots and pressure seals may eventually become brittle and crack.  This can result in brake fluid weeping past the pressure seals or even loss of brake pressure.  For this reason, it is suggested that club racers rebuild their calipers at the end of each racing season.  Some professional race teams replace caliper seals after every race.  For most customers, only pressure seals and dust boots will be required.  However, under very severe racing conditions, especially if race pads have been worn all the way to the steel backing plates, there may be distortion or cracking of the pistons.  If any cracks or distortion are observed, you should replace the pistons.  Calipers on race cars should be inspected regularly and components replaced as necessary.

Please carefully measure caliper piston diameter before ordering.  Remove piston from caliper before measuring, as the portion that extends beyond the dust boot is smaller in diameter than the main body of the piston.  Thus, an accurate measurement cannot be obtained while the piston is still installed.

Dust Boot & Pressure Seal Kit

Each kit includes two dust boots and two pressure seals.  Order one kit per 2-piston caliper, two kits per 4-piston caliper, 3 kits per 6-piston caliper, and 4 kits per 8-piston caliper.

For a StopTech ST-40 4-piston caliper with 36 and 40mm pistons, you should order one each of part numbers 143.99036 and 143.99040 to rebuild one caliper.

Save $7 per rebuild kit, over the cost of purchasing individual parts.  Save $56 total when rebuilding four 4-piston calipers!
